What is KIB

The Association for International Affairs was founded in 1945 as the Kring voor Internationale Betrekkingen (KIB). It is the second oldest and one of the biggest interfacultary student societies. The society was founded by Professor Dr. O. De Raeymaeker with the active help of the then ministers of state Paul van Zeeland and Frans van Cauwelaert.

The goal is to inform and raise the consciousness of the university student about international affairs. This is important, because all major issues today have an international dimension. Moreover, since the end of the WWII the bipolar world has disappeared and problems are becoming ever more complex as they get entangled in a web of new forces.

Our society has had of course its ups and downs over the years, but nevertheless it has managed to bring many important speakers to Leuven to give their opinion on international affairs. Amongst those who have come are a number of secretary-generals of NATO, most Belgian foreign ministers and other ministers from Belgium and abroad. Also eminent academics, respected economists and ambassadors came to the KIB.
